Surgical Microscopes manufactured for the disciplines of Neurosurgical and Spinal cases have very special characteristics. Although in past years some of these cases were performed with Surgical Loupes to enable the surgeon to maximize his point of view by utilizing his back and neck to optimize his viewing angle. With todays advances in Surgical MIcroscopy and the flexibility of current microscope stands the Neuro and Spine Surgeon can enjoy unprecedented comfort while performing these sometimes long cases. These highly specialized microscopes combine full functions via pistol grip controls, including motorized zoom, motorized focus, variable focal distances, and precise electro-magnetic locks enabling exact positioning of the microscope at any angle over the surgical field. Many allow for the corrective rotation of the binoculars to further comfort the surgeon when the microscope is in a tilted position. The units typically have a long reach and Over Head approach to the surgical field to smoothly integrate into the typically congested area around the patient stretcher. The units most always incorporate a very strong Xenon illumination and the addition of an optional video co-observation system. Spinal configurations are set up with face to face optics and the optional multi-axis Stereo Binocular Observation Tube mounts at 90 degrees of the primary surgeon and can be moved from side to side.
